Lascaux cave tour: travel back in time

During your stay at our campsite near Périgueux, La Garenne à Peyrignac, we highly recommend a visit to Lascaux and its cave, a true masterpiece of prehistoric art. Located just a few kilometers from our campsite in the Dordogne, this site, often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of Prehistory”, is world-famous for its impressive frescoes dating back 17,000 years. Discovered in 1940 by four teenagers, the original caves were closed for preservation, in favor of life-size replicas. Today, thanks to Lascaux IV and the Centre International d’Art Pariétal, you can admire the splendor of the caves as if you were there, while enjoying an interactive and educational experience.

Accessible to all, Lascaux, in the heart of the Dordogne region, will amaze you with its plunge into the history of mankind.
